An armed robbery at a mining site in Dompim, Western Region, has taken a dramatic turn after police investigations revealed that the heist was orchestrated with insider support.
According to a statement from the Western Central Regional Police Command, the breakthrough came after one of the robbers, Akwasi Abban, was apprehended on the spot by courageous workers during the robbery. Abban’s confession blew the lid off the operation, implicating the site’s own foreman, Ebenezer Soore, as the mastermind who fed the gang sensitive information.
Abban reportedly admitted to the crime and told investigators that Soore tipped off the gang about gold concentrate movements at the site, enabling the armed robbers to storm the premises under gunfire and loot the materials.
Following this revelation, police swiftly moved to arrest Soore and three other gang members: Elijah Arthur, also known as “Possible,” Elisha Arthur, alias “Skonzy,” and David Agyarko, known as “Big Man.” The trio was apprehended on June 2, 2025.
The police have confirmed that all five suspects have been charged and remanded in prison custody pending further legal proceedings.
The case has heightened concerns over the role of insiders in the rising wave of attacks on Ghana’s mining sites. Authorities are urging mining companies to tighten internal security and conduct thorough background checks on staff to prevent similar breaches.
Investigations are ongoing as the police work to establish whether additional accomplices were involved in the robbery syndicate.
