Former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant Gabrielle Henry has sued the Miss Universe Organisation and other entities, alleging that injuries sustained in a stage accident in Thailand have left her unable to resume her medical career.
Henry filed the lawsuit at the Delaware Superior Court against the Miss Universe Organisation, JKN Legacy Inc. and Legacy Holding Group USA over the incident during the preliminary competition of the 2025 Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok.
The accident occurred on November 19, 2025, while Henry was taking part in the evening gown segment of the competition.
According to the lawsuit, Henry fell approximately five feet through an unmarked opening in the stage. She alleges that the opening was neither covered nor properly identified and contained lighting equipment and concrete.
She further claims that powerful lights directed towards her made it difficult to clearly see the stage surface before the fall.
Henry was knocked unconscious and suffered serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, bleeding in the brain and a subdural haemorrhage.
She remained hospitalised in Thailand from November 19 to December 10, 2025, after receiving intensive care and neurological monitoring.
A statement issued at the time by the Miss Universe Organisation and Henry’s family said she had suffered an intracranial haemorrhage with loss of consciousness, a fracture and facial lacerations.
The former beauty contestant, who was working as an ophthalmologist and undertaking a medical residency when the accident occurred, says the consequences of the injuries have extended beyond the pageant.
According to the lawsuit, Henry was unable to return to her medical residency and continues to experience neurological and cognitive symptoms that require ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation.
The legal action alleges that the stage conditions and inadequate warnings contributed to the accident and the injuries she sustained.
Henry is seeking compensation through the lawsuit, with the case expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the stage setup, safety measures and the extent of her injuries.
The claims in the lawsuit have yet to be determined by the court.
