MTN Ghana’s bold plan to invest $300 million in digital infrastructure and economic growth has received a major boost, with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) throwing its full weight behind the telecom giant’s strategy—especially its emphasis on inclusive, regional development.
At a high-level meeting between GIPC CEO Simon Madjie and MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett, the Centre commended MTN’s long-term commitment to Ghana’s digital and economic transformation, noting that its latest investment plans mark a significant step toward narrowing the urban-rural digital divide.
“This is more than just an investment in telecom,” Mr. Madjie said. “It’s a strategic push toward nationwide digital inclusion—ensuring no region is left behind.”
MTN’s multi-year investment blueprint prioritizes the expansion of digital infrastructure and fintech access in underserved regions beyond Greater Accra. The move comes at a time when regional equity in digital access is viewed as crucial to Ghana’s broader development goals under the Digital Ghana Agenda.
GIPC hailed this regional focus as being directly in line with its national mission to decentralize investment and stimulate growth across all 16 regions.
“This kind of investment doesn’t just benefit MTN—it unlocks potential for small businesses, students, health systems, and innovators in remote parts of Ghana,” Mr. Madjie added.
GIPC pledged to work closely with MTN to facilitate the project’s rollout, engage local stakeholders, and remove bureaucratic bottlenecks that could hinder progress.
The collaboration marks a deepening of public-private cooperation in Ghana’s ICT sector—viewed as a key driver of GDP growth, job creation, and financial inclusion.
As MTN’s capital injection prepares to roll out, the eyes of both industry players and rural communities are on what could become a model for tech-led inclusive development in West Africa.
