The Bono Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Peter Kwabena Gyesi, has underscored the importance of constitutional literacy among schoolchildren, urging them to familiarize themselves with the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Speaking at an inter-basic school quiz competition held at Wamanafo in the Dormaa East District as part of Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Mr. Gyesi emphasized that understanding the Constitution is crucial for the next generation of leaders. He encouraged students to actively participate in civic education clubs in their schools to deepen their knowledge of democratic governance.
Dormaa East District NCCE Director, Mr. Emmanuel Hinneh, highlighted that the competition was designed to instill democratic values in young learners and inspire them to take an active interest in Ghana’s governance framework.
The quiz competition saw Sabwill Junior High School (JHS) claim the top spot, winning a trophy. Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) JHS and Saint James JHS placed second and third, respectively, each receiving a wall clock. All participating students were also awarded exercise books as a token of appreciation for their efforts.
Through such initiatives, the NCCE aims to foster a generation of well-informed citizens who understand their rights and responsibilities within Ghana’s democratic system.
