A new professional organisation aimed at strengthening Africa’s role in peacebuilding and security management has been launched with a call for greater collaboration among experts across the continent.
The Association of Conflict, Peace and Security Experts in Africa (ACPSEA) was officially unveiled during a virtual launch held in Accra on Tuesday, bringing together professionals from countries including Ghana, The Gambia, Nigeria, and Kenya.
Speaking at the event, the Founder and President of the Association, Isaac Asare, said the organisation seeks to create a continental network of professionals involved in mediation, diplomacy, peacebuilding, and security analysis.
He noted that Africa continues to face significant security challenges in countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Somalia, and Nigeria, stressing the need for stronger institutional capacity to prevent conflicts and manage crises.
According to him, ACPSEA will promote professionalism, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among experts working in conflict resolution, dispute management, and security studies. The Association also plans to establish national chapters across Africa to serve as platforms for professional engagement within individual countries.
“ACPSEA envisions a future where African professionals lead mediation and conflict resolution across the continent, and African research institutions shape global peace and security debates,” Mr Asare stated.
He added that the Association would advocate the wider adoption of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms within Africa’s justice systems as part of efforts to reduce conflicts and strengthen peaceful dialogue.
The Secretary-General of ACPSEA, Mina Mensah, said the organisation would also focus on research, education, and professional training in peace and security studies, while encouraging partnerships with governments, academic institutions, and civil society organisations.
A guest speaker at the event, Michael Lang, encouraged members to remain innovative and open to new ideas as they work toward building a strong professional platform for peacebuilding in Africa.
ACPSEA was registered in June 2025 under Professional Bodies Registration Act, 1973 (Act 143) and currently has more than 100 members across the continent.
The launch also featured the unveiling of the Association’s official logo and a fundraising session to support its activities aimed at promoting sustainable peace and security throughout Africa.
