Amid rising concerns over global fuel supply disruptions, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has moved to allay public fears, assuring that Ghana’s current fuel reserves are sufficient to meet national demand for well over two months.
Addressing the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy during a stakeholder engagement in Senchi on Saturday, Mr. Tameklo disclosed that Ghana currently has over 200 million litres of petrol and 150 million litres of diesel in storage.
“Our fuel stock levels remain healthy,” he said. “We have strategic reserves that give us a strong buffer, and Ghanaians should rest assured—there is no imminent risk of supply disruptions.”
Mr. Tameklo also pointed to additional support from international partners, noting that several vessels carrying petroleum products are already in Ghanaian waters. He highlighted the growing output from Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery as a further boost to Ghana’s supply chain, particularly with the refinery now producing significant volumes of both petrol and diesel.
The NPA’s assurance comes at a time when global energy markets remain volatile due to geopolitical tensions and fluctuating crude oil prices. The agency’s statement aims to calm market speculation and prevent panic-buying or artificial scarcity.
Mr. Tameklo reiterated that the Authority continues to coordinate closely with bulk distribution companies and international suppliers to maintain stable supply lines and safeguard the country’s energy security.b
