The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised concerns over what it describes as unanswered security questions surrounding the disappearance of a Dambai resident, Fuseini Mohammed, nearly 10 months after he was allegedly abducted.
The party is demanding a comprehensive update from the government and security agencies on investigations into the case, arguing that the circumstances surrounding the incident require urgent clarification.
NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, made the call at a media engagement in Dambai on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
According to the NPP, Mr Mohammed reportedly disappeared on October 21, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m. while returning home on a motorbike with his pregnant wife after closing from their shop.
The party said the alleged abduction occurred about 50 metres from the residence of the Oti Regional Minister.
Mr Kodua said the reported circumstances of the incident raised questions about how the alleged perpetrators could have moved through the area without being detected.
He pointed out that the ferry operating at Dambai was not functioning at the time, limiting movement across the area, while the alternative route towards Nkwanta Junction was about eight kilometres long and reportedly had three security checkpoints operating at night.
“If these accounts are accurate, legitimate questions arise as to how the perpetrators could have allegedly abducted a citizen, transported him through or out of the area, and apparently escaped detection,” he said.
Call for investigation update
The NPP is consequently asking the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), national security authorities and law enforcement agencies to account for the progress made in the investigation since Mr Mohammed’s disappearance.
Mr Kodua wants authorities to disclose the specific investigative measures undertaken and indicate how information, leads and accounts provided by residents and potential witnesses have been followed up.
The party is also questioning whether CCTV footage from the vicinity and relevant routes was retrieved, preserved and subjected to forensic examination.
Mr Kodua said the reported absence of a power outage at the time of the incident made it important for investigators to establish whether surveillance cameras were operational and, if so, whether their recordings had been examined.
“We understand that there was no power outage in the area at the material time. If surveillance cameras were operational, the public deserves to know whether available footage was retrieved and analysed to identify the vehicle allegedly involved or reconstruct its movements,” he said.
He further called for an examination of records from security checkpoints along the relevant route and questioned whether officers on duty at the time had been interviewed.
The NPP also wants clarification on the role played by REGSEC in coordinating the investigation and whether all available investigative avenues have been exhausted.
NPP rejects partisan framing
Mr Kodua said the party’s concerns should not be interpreted as a partisan attempt to politicise the case, insisting that the protection of citizens is a responsibility of the state regardless of political affiliation.
He said every Ghanaian was entitled to equal protection under the law and that the prolonged uncertainty surrounding Mr Mohammed’s whereabouts had placed an enormous burden on his family.
“Every Ghanaian life has equal value. The ordinary trader, farmer, teacher, student, commercial driver and citizen walking the streets of Dambai is entitled to the same protection of the State as the highest public official,” the party said.
The NPP also questioned whether the investigation would have remained unresolved for almost 10 months if the missing person had been a senior government official or politically exposed individual.
“Security cannot become a privilege reserved for those who occupy positions of political authority,” it added.
The party is appealing to civil society organisations, traditional authorities, religious leaders, human rights groups and the media to support calls for a thorough and transparent investigation.
It said establishing Mr Mohammed’s whereabouts, determining what happened to him and holding any person found responsible accountable under the law should remain the priority.
The NPP said it would continue to demand answers until the circumstances surrounding the Dambai resident’s disappearance are fully established.
