The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced a major restructuring of its volunteer programme, leading to the termination of most volunteer appointments within its offices across the country.
According to a circular issued on February 21, 2025, by NSA Director General Mr. Felix Gyamfi, the decision is part of a broader effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency within the Authority. The terminations are set to take effect on February 28, 2025.

Exceptions for Critical Areas
While the restructuring will affect the majority of volunteers, the NSA has made exceptions for districts with limited staffing. In areas where only one staff member is managing operations, a single volunteer assistant will be retained. Additionally, vacant districts will be allowed to maintain essential personnel, including one assistant, a cleaner, catering staff, and farm personnel.
Recognition of Volunteer Contributions
The NSA acknowledged the contributions of volunteers, expressing appreciation for their dedication and hard work. The circular highlighted that the restructuring is not a reflection of performance but rather a strategic move to optimize resources.
As part of the transition, Heads of Departments (HODs), Unit Heads, and Regional Directors have been instructed to ensure that all NSA property, including laptops, documents, and motorbikes, are returned before the February 28 deadline.
While the restructuring aims to enhance operational efficiency, the move raises concerns about potential job losses and the impact on service delivery in affected districts.
The NSA has yet to outline any plans for reabsorbing volunteers or providing alternative opportunities for those affected.
