The Ghana Education Trust Fund (Ghana Education Trust Fund) has paid a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to brief him on the award of a GH¢400 million contract for the development of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital.
The delegation, led by GETFund Administrator Mr Paul Adjei, said the visit was to update the Asantehene on progress made in procuring medical equipment and outlining the implementation roadmap for the project.
The planned facility forms part of government’s broader agenda to strengthen tertiary healthcare infrastructure and position public universities as centres of medical excellence.
According to GETFund, the hospital will be fitted with modern medical technologies to support clinical training, research, and specialised healthcare delivery.
Mr Adjei reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to ensuring successful execution of the project, describing it as a strategic investment in both education and healthcare development.
He also assured the Asantehene that GETFund would continue to support key national institutions through targeted interventions aimed at improving service delivery.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended the government and President John Dramani Mahama for the initiative, describing it as a major step toward improving healthcare access and training capacity in Ghana.
He noted that the project would significantly enhance healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region while serving as a national and sub-regional referral centre.
The Asantehene further stressed the importance of sustained investment in modern health infrastructure and medical education to support national development.
Once completed, the KNUST Teaching Hospital is expected to serve as a major hub for advanced clinical services, medical research, and training for healthcare professionals across Ghana and the West African sub-region.
