The ongoing 60-kilometre Perchi Junction–Enchi road project is being cited by the government as evidence that extending construction hours can significantly accelerate the delivery of major road infrastructure.
Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, said the pace of work on the project demonstrated that contractors could meet tighter completion timelines when they fully utilised available working hours.
Mr Agbodza made the observation during a night inspection of the project on Tuesday, September 16, as part of efforts to assess progress on the road linking communities in the Western North Region towards Elubo.
He commended Big Aidoo Construction Limited for maintaining what he described as an encouraging pace of work and urged other contractors handling major road projects to adopt similar practices.
According to the Minister, the contractor’s performance provides practical evidence that the government’s push for a 24-hour work schedule in road construction can be achieved.
“This is an example that the Ghanaian contractor can do everything that we require of them. We want to commend them, and they are one of the best examples since we started this tour. I think others should learn from them,” he said.
Mr Agbodza said contractors needed to maximise the available working hours to shorten project completion periods and ensure that critical infrastructure was delivered to communities within agreed timelines.
He particularly praised Big Aidoo Construction Limited for its commitment to completing the Perchi Junction–Enchi road by March 2027.
Strategic road link
The Perchi Junction–Enchi road is expected to strengthen connectivity between the Sefwi area and Elubo and improve movement of people and goods along the corridor.
The route is also expected to provide an alternative connection for travellers from Côte d’Ivoire heading towards Kumasi and other parts of Ghana and the Sahel.
The Minister’s night inspection formed part of the government’s monitoring of major road projects and its broader drive to improve project delivery through extended working hours.
Mr Agbodza said the experience on the Perchi Junction–Enchi project should encourage other contractors to demonstrate similar commitment as the government seeks faster completion of major road infrastructure across the country.
