A philanthropist, Hajia Halima Sadia Mohammad, has donated books to the Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM) to support its initiative to establish a community library in Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
The donation is expected to provide students, young people and other residents with access to educational and reading materials while helping to strengthen the culture of reading in the community.
The books were received on behalf of PAYOM by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Desmond Abire; Treasurer, Ms Samitu Kumoriwo; and a member, Mr Killian Bantiu.
Mr Suleman Salifu Zebrim, an educationist who facilitated the donation, said the gesture would contribute to efforts to improve access to quality educational resources in Paga and the wider district.
He said his involvement was part of his continued commitment to improving education in the area, particularly in communities where inadequate learning materials continued to affect teaching and learning.
“As a professional teacher and a former Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Bongo District, I have seen firsthand how lack of adequate learning materials affects teaching and learning, especially in our deprived communities,” he said.
Mr Zebrim described the donation as more than a supply of books, saying it represented an investment in literacy, the future of children and national development.
He expressed confidence that the materials would encourage children to read, improve academic performance and motivate both teachers and pupils.
He commended Hajia Mohammad for her generosity and urged other individuals, businesses and organisations to support educational initiatives in Paga.
PAYOM seeks more support
In a statement signed by its PRO, PAYOM expressed gratitude to Hajia Mohammad for supporting the community library project.
The Movement said the books would contribute significantly to its vision of establishing a permanent facility for learning, reading, research and personal development.
It also commended Mr Zebrim for facilitating the donation and connecting the library initiative to the philanthropist.
PAYOM appealed to individuals, businesses, institutions, organisations and friends of Paga to support the project with additional books, furniture, computers, financial assistance and other resources required to establish the library.
“Every book donated is a mind empowered; every contribution is an investment in Paga’s future,” it said.
