Residents and businesses in parts of Tema and its surrounding communities are expected to experience intermittent power outages starting Tuesday, April 14, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) undertakes a major infrastructure upgrade.
The scheduled outages form part of Phase Two of ECG’s transformer replacement and upgrade programme at the Lashibi Primary Substation, an initiative aimed at improving electricity supply reliability in the area.
The three-day exercise, expected to end on April 16, will involve increasing the capacity of an existing transformer to address growing demand and reduce system overloads.
According to ECG, the works will require planned interruptions to power supply in affected areas, with outages expected to occur in six-hour intervals throughout the project period.
Communities likely to be impacted include Community 18, Spintex, Sakumono, Regimanuel Estates, Baatsona, and nearby areas.
While acknowledging the inconvenience, ECG has assured customers that steps have been taken to minimise disruptions and complete the work within the shortest possible time.
The power distributor has urged residents and business operators to plan ahead and take necessary precautions during the outage period.
The company added that detailed schedules outlining specific outage times and locations will be communicated through its official channels.
ECG says the upgrade is part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s electricity infrastructure and improve service delivery, following the successful completion of a similar phase at the Nmai Dzorn Primary Substation.
