The IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team picked up a publication on Facebook by journalist and legal practitioner, Umaru Sanda Amadu, to the effect that a motorist was involved in a road traffic accident with police vehicles and that the police failed to convey the motorist to the hospital.
Following the post, officers from the IGP’s Special CVET made a follow-up and confirmed the incident, which occurred at Ridge, near the National Theatre.
The incident involved Service Vehicle No. 115 and one other vehicle from the National Protection Unit (NPU) and its officers on an important assignment.
Preliminary enquiries indicate that the assigned service driver quickly conveyed the victim to Ridge Hospital for medical attention.
The victim subsequently confirmed that he had received medical treatment at Ridge Hospital and was discharged. He further indicated that the police personnel involved settled all his medical bills and that he continued to take his prescribed medication while recovering at home.
The case is under investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and to determine whether any additional action is required.
