The Bono Regional Police Command has launched investigations into the killing of an 87-year-old retired veterinary officer, Alhaji Abdulai Toure, whose body was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the Jaman North District.
According to a police statement issued by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the deceased was discovered on Monday, June 1, 2026, near a public cemetery at New Japan, a suburb of Sampa.
Police said the body was found lying face down near the cemetery, dressed in blue-and-white striped lace clothing, with a wristwatch on but without shoes.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the elderly man had earlier reported that unidentified individuals had set his house in Sampa and his Opel Kadett vehicle ablaze before his death.
He is said to have later boarded a passenger bus with registration number AS 9859-14 from the Sampa lorry station heading towards Berekum.
The statement noted that the driver stopped briefly at a vulcaniser to inflate a tyre when four young men, identified only by the names Abode, Mepawokyew, Alaska, and Baala, allegedly boarded the vehicle.
The suspects reportedly attacked the deceased, forcibly removed him from the bus, and transported him in an auto rickshaw, locally known as a “pragya,” towards the cemetery area along the Kokoa road.
Police retrieval at the scene uncovered five spent AAA cartridge casings and three spent BBB casings, indicating that the victim was shot.
The body has been deposited at the Sampa Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
A family member, identified as 45-year-old farmer Siaka Yahaya, confirmed the deceased as his stepfather.
The police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspects and have appealed to the public for information to assist ongoing investigations.
The Command assured residents of intensified efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and maintain security in the area.
