The Eastern Regional Police Command has widened investigations into the violent clashes between Okuapeman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School, with allegations that some teachers may have encouraged students to attack each other.
More than 10 students have so far been arrested in connection with the violence, while the police say they have identified teachers whose names have emerged in the course of investigations.
Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah, said the police would arrest any teacher found to have played a role in inciting or facilitating the clashes.
“We have the names of the teachers. They have nowhere to go. At the appropriate time, we will arrest all of them, and their names will be published,” he said on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
According to the Regional Police Commander, some students fled their respective schools when the police arrived at the scene, but their absence would not prevent the security agency from pursuing them.
“We have apprehended them. And there are more,” he said, explaining that the police were compiling a comprehensive list of students and other persons believed to have participated in the violence.
The clashes, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, reportedly involved reprisal attacks between students of the two schools and resulted in the destruction and burning of structures on both campuses.
The police have yet to establish the immediate trigger for the confrontation but say investigations are ongoing to determine what sparked the violence and identify all persons involved.
At Okuapeman SHS, six students sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The headmaster of the school said four of the injured students had been treated and discharged, while two remained on admission as of Wednesday.
DCOP Owusu-Bempah assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full force of the law, regardless of whether the person was a student, teacher or any other individual.
He also urged students to return to school and cooperate with investigators as the police work to restore calm and establish responsibility for the destruction.
The police commander further cautioned individuals against interfering with the investigation, warning that attempts to shield suspects or obstruct the police process could undermine efforts to restore order and ensure accountability.
