A joint police and military operation at Sampa in the Bono Region has led to the recovery of eight weapons and the arrest of 24 suspects, according to the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement issued by the Bono Regional Police Command, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the 3rd Infantry Battalion and the Bureau of National Intelligence as part of an intelligence-led security exercise in Sampa Township.
The police said the operation was conducted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2026, and was aimed at removing illegal weapons and tackling criminal activity in the area. Officers recovered five pump-action guns, one locally manufactured gun and two locally made pistols during the exercise.
In addition to the weapons, several items were also seized, including large quantities of ammunition, machetes, knives, military jackets, desert boots, smartphones and eight unregistered motorbikes. Police said some of the items were suspected to be linked to criminal activity in the area.
The statement also confirmed that 24 people were arrested during the operation. Two of the suspects were picked up specifically for breaching curfew regulations, while the rest are being investigated in connection with the weapons and other items found.
According to the police, the suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations as steps are taken to prepare them for prosecution.
The Bono Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to continue sharing credible information that could help security agencies track down individuals in possession of illegal weapons and strengthen safety in the region.
The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the regional command.
