The Western Central Regional Police Command has restored order at Benso in the Western Region following a violent disturbance that led to an assault, damage to property, and the discharge of firearms.
In a statement issued by Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Central Region, police said the incident was reported on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at about 8:20 p.m.
According to the report, a 22-year-old man, Prosper Kwame Eshun, was allegedly assaulted by some forestry officers at their bungalow after an earlier interaction in the area.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had parked his motorcycle near the entrance of the forestry officers’ residence before leaving briefly to purchase an item nearby.
Upon returning, he reportedly noticed that his motorcycle had been moved and raised concerns, suspecting interference with the vehicle.
Police say that an attempt to seek clarification from the officers present escalated into an argument, which later developed into a physical confrontation.
During the ensuing disturbance, another individual, identified as 43-year-old George Adu, sustained gunshot injuries.
The police confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control, with both victims receiving medical treatment.
Authorities added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
