The Ebenezer Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Agona Nsaba has paid tribute to two veteran church workers whose decades of commitment helped expand the church’s presence across several rural communities in the district.
Mr George Owusu Asomaning and Mr Daniel Kwabena Nyarko, both aged over 80, were honoured at a special retirement service in recognition of their enduring contributions to evangelism, church planting, and community development.
The ceremony highlighted the significant role the two men played in nurturing congregations and advancing the mission of the Presbyterian Church in difficult-to-reach areas, often working under challenging conditions, including poor road networks and limited resources.
Delivering the sermon, Reverend Christian Yeboah Nyarko, Pastor-in-Charge of the Duakwa Congregation, praised the retirees for their unwavering dedication and sacrifice in the service of God. He urged younger members of the Church to follow their example of commitment and selflessness.
Rev. Nyarko also expressed concern about the growing difficulty in finding individuals willing to undertake missionary work in remote communities, describing the demanding terrain as a major challenge for the Church.
Mr Asomaning, now 81, devoted more than three decades to establishing Presbyterian congregations in villages across the Agona Nsaba District. Even after officially retiring from active service in 2005, he continued to serve the Church through the Ebenezer Congregation, where he worked as Secretary of the Men’s Fellowship.
His passion for evangelism led him to spearhead the establishment of a Presbyterian congregation at Kokoado, where he served as caretaker for nearly two decades until ill health forced him to step down in December 2024.
During his years at Kokoado, he mobilised residents to build a thriving congregation and initiated the construction of a chapel to serve the growing membership. He also championed efforts to establish a school for the community, although the project was later discontinued due to inadequate support.
Mr Nyarko, 85, similarly dedicated more than 22 years of service to the Presbyterian Church in KwesiPentil, where he played a key role in strengthening the local congregation and expanding church activities.
His leadership journey saw him rise from being one of the youngest Presbyters in the Church to eventually becoming Senior Presbyter. Among his notable contributions was facilitating the construction of a protective wall around the premises of the Ebenezer Congregation at Agona Nsaba.
In appreciation of their outstanding service and commitment to the growth of the Church, the congregation presented both retirees with plaques and cash donations.
The retirement service served not only as a celebration of two remarkable lives of ministry but also as a reminder of the invaluable contributions of grassroots church workers whose dedication continues to shape communities and strengthen the Christian faith across the country.
