The Presbyterian Church of Ghana is set to launch a new award scheme in 2026 to honour dedicated and high-performing teachers within its educational institutions across the country.
Reverend Seth Duodu Abedi, Director of Education for the Church’s Sekyere Presbytery, revealed the plan during a working visit to Presbyterian Basic Schools in Atebubu, Bono East Region. The initiative, according to him, aims to boost morale and incentivise excellence in teaching across Presbyterian schools.
Rev. Abedi, who also serves as the Juaben District Minister, urged teachers to redouble their efforts and commit to raising the academic performance of their students. He commended the schools for their commendable results in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination and encouraged continuous improvement.
The visit covered several schools including Atebubu Presby Primary “A” and “B”, JHS “A” and “B”, and the Presbyterian Kindergarten, where he interacted with staff and assessed challenges on the ground.
Accompanying him were Mr. Eric Koranteng, the Atebubu District Education Director for the Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Wiredu Darkwa, the District Local Manager for the schools. Both officials echoed the call for resilience and professionalism despite existing infrastructure and security challenges.
School heads expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that it had renewed the teachers’ motivation, even as they appealed for urgent attention to inadequate classroom space and safety concerns.
