Hiplife legend Reggie Rockstone has expressed shock and sympathy after learning during an interview that Shatta Wale’s ShattaFest UK event had been cancelled following reports of a serious incident outside the venue.
Rockstone, who was initially unaware of the development, paused the interview after being informed that the concert had been called off amid reports of a stampede and an alleged fatality.
Visibly surprised by the news, the veteran musician extended his condolences to the affected family.
“We send love to the family. I didn’t know. Oh wow… that’s bad news,” he said in a video sighted by MyNewsGh.
He explained that he had previously believed the situation involved only a crowd incident and was saddened to hear that a life had reportedly been lost.
“I just thought it was a stampede. Thanks for the information,” he said.
Describing Shatta Wale as a brother and a member of his extended musical family, Rockstone said he felt compelled to contact the dancehall artiste immediately.
“This is family, so I should be calling my brother Shatta Wale from here right now,” he said.
Rockstone added that the reported incident was particularly painful because fans had gathered to support a Ghanaian artiste and celebrate music.
“To lose a life going to watch one of our brothers is not good news. So I have to go make some calls,” he said.
Organisers of ShattaFest UK earlier announced the cancellation of the event, citing a serious incident outside the venue and stating that investigations were underway.
