The University of Cape Coast has suspended its mentorship and affiliation arrangement with the Royal Nursing College following the revocation of the college’s accreditation by regulators.
The action comes after the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission earlier shut down the nursing training institution in February over failure to comply with regulatory requirements.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, UCC said the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
According to the university, the decision was taken after the college failed to adhere to directives issued by UCC itself, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, and GTEC.
“The decision has been necessitated by the College’s non-compliance with regulatory directives and instructions,” the university said in the statement.
Despite the suspension, UCC said measures had been put in place to protect students currently enrolled at the institution. The university has introduced a teach-out programme to allow Level 300 students to complete their academic programmes without interruption.
UCC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict academic standards across all institutions under its mentorship arrangements, stressing that it would continue to collaborate with regulators to ensure compliance with approved educational frameworks.
The university also urged the Royal Nursing College to address the regulatory concerns and meet the required standards in order to restore compliance in the future.
