The Assembly Member for Denkyira Nkotimso in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, Mr John Mensah, has called on religious and traditional leaders to take a more active role in community development, particularly in promoting sanitation and environmental cleanliness.
He stressed that cleanliness is a value encouraged by God, urging churches, mosques, and traditional authorities to lead by example through regular clean-up exercises to keep their surroundings clean and healthy.
Mr Mensah made the appeal during a recent community clean-up exercise held at Denkyira Nkotimso, where residents came together to tidy up public spaces and improve sanitation conditions in the area.
He further encouraged stakeholders to complement government efforts by supporting development projects that can help accelerate growth within the community.
During the exercise, the District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira West, Mr Isaac Nsiah, reinforced the importance of maintaining clean environments, noting that good sanitation is directly linked to improved public health.
He disclosed that the District Assembly has introduced several measures to improve waste management, including the placement of dustbins at strategic locations across the district.
Mr Nsiah also urged traders to make proper use of waste bins provided, especially after market activities, in order to reduce indiscriminate dumping.
He explained that better waste management practices would help the Assembly reduce spending on sanitation, allowing more funds to be redirected into development projects that benefit residents.
