The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, has issued a strong warning to contractors working on the Techiman-Wenchi Road project, threatening to terminate the contract over what he described as unacceptable delays despite substantial government payments.
During an inspection tour of the project site, Mr Agbodza expressed frustration over the slow pace of work, revealing that the government had already released GH¢66 million to the contractors under the government’s ‘Big Push’ road infrastructure initiative.
According to him, the contractors have failed to justify the lack of progress on the road project, which was awarded in December 2025.
“We have paid significant money for this project, yet we haven’t seen any meaningful improvement on the ground,” the Minister stated, warning that government would not hesitate to withdraw the contract and hand it over to another contractor if delays persist.
He stressed that the Techiman-Wenchi Road remains a critical project under the ‘Big Push’ agenda, designed to improve transportation, enhance trade, and accelerate economic growth in the area.
Mr Agbodza noted that the government is committing huge financial resources to road development nationwide and expects contractors to deliver quality work within agreed timelines.
He also cautioned contractors against substandard construction, insisting that government would prioritise durability and value for money.
Accompanying the minister on the inspection tour, the Bono East Regional Minister, Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, assured residents that authorities would step up monitoring to ensure road contractors in the region meet project deadlines.
He said strict supervision would be enforced to guarantee that all projects under the government’s infrastructure programme are completed on schedule and to standard.
