Samsung to Launch AI-Powered Spam Filtering on Galaxy Smartphones

Samsung Electronics, in partnership with the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) and the Korea Internet and Security Agency, is set to roll out an AI-driven spam filtering system to enhance security on its smartphones.

The feature, designed to automatically detect and block fraudulent messages, will identify harmful links and phone numbers, directing them to a dedicated spam folder. Users will have the option to review, unblock, or delete flagged messages, ensuring greater control over their digital security.

The new AI-powered security tool will debut on the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, with plans to extend it to existing Samsung devices via the Android 15-based One UI 7 update.

This move aligns with South Korea’s intensified crackdown on spam and fraudulent messaging, particularly scams related to financial fraud, illegal gambling, and phishing attacks.

The KCC has been strengthening measures against bulk messaging scams, introducing new regulations and penalties in late 2024. The collaboration with Samsung is part of a broader national initiative to safeguard users from digital threats.

Shin Young-kyu, Director General of the Consumer Policy Bureau at KCC, stressed the importance of AI-enhanced security solutions, stating:

“We are committed to building a safer digital environment, protecting users from spam, phishing, and smishing attacks through continuous cooperation with technology partners.”

Samsung’s adoption of AI-powered spam protection highlights a growing industry trend toward AI-driven cybersecurity solutions. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, companies worldwide are leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance digital safety and privacy for users.
