As Ghana prepares to mark the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on July 1, 2025, a leading clergyman in the Western North Region is calling on citizens to pair their faith with meaningful action.
Pastor Elijah Kofi Asante, District Pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Sefwi-Wiawso, has welcomed the government’s initiative, describing it as a timely effort to unify the country under divine guidance. However, he cautioned that prayer alone cannot deliver the country from its economic and social challenges.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after launching the district’s prayer conference at the Wiawso Central SDA Church, Pastor Asante stressed that national development requires both divine intervention and proactive governance.
“Prayers are powerful, but without the right policies and the commitment to uplift living standards, we cannot expect miracles,” he said.
Themed “Heart Lift, Burdens Shifted: Encountering God’s Power in Prayer,” the district’s conference aims to mobilise spiritual reflection across congregations ahead of the national observance.
Pastor Asante called on Ghana’s leadership to ensure that the spirit of the day is matched by concrete action to tackle pressing socio-economic issues. He believes prayer should inspire a renewed sense of responsibility and accountability among policymakers and citizens alike.
