Two men have been fined a total of GH¢21,600 by the Tarkwa Circuit Court after being found guilty of unlawful entry, theft, and dishonestly receiving stolen property.
Emmanuel Mensah, 28, unemployed and also known as “Quansah,” and John Paul, 40, an artist known as “Ink Man,” were each ordered to pay GH¢10,800 or serve 24 months imprisonment with hard labour in default of payment.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Lartey, the complainant, trader Jibril Warris of Akoon, had left three mobile phones – an iPhone 12, iPhone XR, and an HMD Android – charging in his room on January 18, 2026. The following day, he discovered that the door to his room had been forced open and the phones were missing. The total value of the stolen phones, including a faulty iPhone XR, was estimated at GH¢7,000.
ASP Lartey explained that Mensah took one of the stolen phones to a mobile phone repairer at the Tarkwa main lorry station, requesting GH¢100 for servicing. The repairer noticed the complainant’s photograph on the device and alerted the police, leading to Mensah’s arrest.
During investigation, Mensah confessed to selling the iPhone 12 and iPhone XR to John Paul for GH¢300, while handing the HMD Android phone to another individual for safekeeping. The police later apprehended John Paul and recovered the two iPhones belonging to the complainant.
The court’s ruling underscores the effective collaboration between law enforcement and the public, ensuring stolen property is retrieved and perpetrators are held accountable.
