Women in Tech Ghana has launched a nationwide campaign aimed at equipping women, young people and communities with practical green and digital skills to tackle Ghana’s growing environmental challenges.

The Green Tech Campaign 2026, being implemented under the theme **“Building a Sustainable Ghana through Green Technology, Circularity and Collective Action,”** seeks to move environmental advocacy beyond awareness creation towards practical solutions and economic opportunities.

Country Director of Women in Tech Ghana, Mrs Luvina Sandra Atsu, said the campaign was designed to promote the use of technology and innovation in addressing problems such as plastic pollution, indiscriminate waste disposal, flooding and rising energy demand.

She said the initiative would also help improve public understanding of circular economy principles, which remained relatively low despite their potential to reduce waste and create new economic opportunities.

According to Mrs Atsu, the campaign would be driven by six key pillars: green technology, circularity, practical sustainability, behavioural change, future skills and long-term impact.

### Practical programmes for communities

She said the campaign would include virtual training for 200 participants in green jobs and future skills as part of efforts to prepare young people for emerging opportunities in the green economy.

More than 1,000 traders will also be engaged in waste-sorting activities and plastic-free campaigns, while 500 students will receive waste management and digital skills training through the Green School Circularity Challenge.

The initiative will further introduce a circular-to-value demonstration project aimed at showing how waste can be transformed into useful and potentially income-generating resources.

Mrs Atsu said the campaign would also support schools that lacked reliable electricity by providing solar-powered power solutions.

She called on businesses, development partners and investors to support the programme through strategic partnerships, describing investment in green technology and skills as an investment in Ghana’s long-term development.

She reiterated Women in Tech Ghana’s commitment to empowering five million women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) by 2030.

### Technology seen as key to environmental solutions

Executive Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mrs Gloria Opoku Anti, commended Women in Tech Ghana for introducing what she described as a timely initiative capable of promoting sustainable lifestyles and green entrepreneurship.

She said Ghana’s rapid urbanisation, increasing waste generation, plastic pollution, climate change and unsustainable exploitation of natural resources required innovative approaches.

Mrs Anti said emerging technologies could play an important role in addressing these challenges, citing artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, Geographic Information Systems, renewable energy, smart waste management and advanced recycling technologies.

According to her, the adoption of such technologies could not only improve environmental management but also create jobs and support inclusive economic growth.

She therefore called for stronger collaboration among government, businesses, educational institutions, development partners and local communities to expand green innovation and circular economy solutions.

Mrs Anti particularly encouraged women and girls to embrace technology and use their skills to develop solutions to real-world environmental and economic problems.

She pledged Zoomlion Ghana’s continued support for initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and contribute to national development.

The Green Tech Campaign 2026 is expected to combine environmental education, technology, skills development and community action as part of efforts to build a more sustainable and resource-efficient Ghana.
