Kwame Jantuah Urges Transparency and Dignity in Ofori-Atta Investigation

A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, has called for greater transparency and accountability in the ongoing investigation involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, while cautioning against politicizing the legal process or compromising the dignity of individuals under scrutiny.

Speaking on The Forum on Asaase Radio, Jantuah said the public deserves clarity on the matter but also warned against “trial by public opinion.” His comments come amid growing national debate over the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) pursuit of Ofori-Atta, who is under investigation for alleged corruption-related offences.

“We need transparency, but also fairness. Let the process work. If Ken can travel, he should come. If not, he should communicate properly. This isn’t just about law—it’s about public confidence,” Jantuah noted.

Concerns Over Silence and Credibility

Jantuah emphasized that a prolonged silence from Ofori-Atta’s legal team—especially after a reported postponed surgery—has only fueled speculation and eroded public trust.

“The operation didn’t happen. Fine. But he should have written to the Special Prosecutor to explain and share updates,” he said. “That’s how credibility is built in a legal process.”

He further urged Ofori-Atta to show willingness to cooperate fully with investigators to ease public anxiety and affirm respect for institutions.

Balancing Justice with Human Dignity

While acknowledging the OSP’s authority to issue an INTERPOL red notice, Jantuah warned against excessive displays of force or humiliation, saying such actions could undermine Ghana’s democratic ethos.

“Let’s not drag someone in chains to this country. Ken Ofori-Atta has not been convicted. He deserves humane treatment while the law takes its course,” he added.

Jantuah stressed the importance of handling the case with empathy, especially if health concerns are valid. However, he was clear that this should not hinder the pursuit of justice or allow the powerful to evade accountability.

No Room for Political Vendettas

Addressing suggestions that the case could become a tool for political retaliation under the current administration, Jantuah dismissed such fears and appealed for calm.

“I don’t believe President Mahama is the kind of leader to deny a sick man treatment. This should not be about revenge. It should be about truth, fairness, and strengthening our institutions.”

A Broader Call for Institutional Respect

Jantuah’s commentary signals a broader call for mature political discourse and institutional integrity, as Ghana navigates sensitive high-profile investigations.

“We’re building a democracy. That means not just respecting the law, but also how we apply it to everyone—equally, and with decency,” he concluded.
