Court Orders Nana Agradaa’s Appearance to Open Defence in Intimate Image Case

The High Court in Accra has ordered that controversial televangelist and convicted fraudster, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, be brought to court from prison to open her defence in a fresh criminal trial involving the alleged unlawful sharing of intimate images.

Agradaa, currently serving a 15-year sentence at the Nsawam Prison for defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement, was absent when the case was called on Monday. Her absence prompted the presiding judge to question her whereabouts, to which the prosecution responded that she remained in lawful custody.

The judge subsequently directed the prison authorities to ensure her physical presence at the next hearing, where Agradaa and three co-accused are to respond to criminal charges related to the non-consensual sharing of nude images of Prophet Emmanuel Appiah Fomum.

The court’s directive came after dismissing a “submission of no case” filed by Agradaa’s legal team. The judge ruled that the evidence presented by the prosecution warranted a defence, and all four accused must proceed to answer the charges.

Charges and Allegations

Nana Agradaa faces four separate counts, including possession of obscene material and distribution of intimate images without consent—all under Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038). Her co-accused — Enock Owusu Kissi (33), Charles Omane alias One Gig (39), and Emmanuel Kofi Gyasi (47) — face charges of abetment and conspiracy.

The charges stem from a July 2024 incident during a live broadcast on Agradaa’s programme, Yi Wasum, aired on the now-defunct Thunder TV, and streamed on YouTube and Facebook. Prosecutors allege that during the programme, nude images of Prophet Fomum were displayed on air and later circulated via WhatsApp.

The co-accused, serving as panellists during the broadcast, allegedly made mocking and demeaning remarks about the prophet’s nudity, which prosecutors say further violated his privacy and dignity.

Case Management Set for July 30

The court has given all parties two weeks to file witness statements, with a Case Management Conference (CMC) scheduled for July 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. At that hearing, the defence is expected to formally respond to the charges.

Though the Circuit Court earlier dismissed the case, state prosecutors revived it at the High Court, insisting the allegations constitute a serious violation of the victim’s digital rights and public decency laws.

This development adds another legal challenge to Nana Agradaa’s mounting criminal woes, as she continues to serve time for unrelated fraud convictions involving misleading promises of spiritual wealth and financial miracles.

With public interest in the case high, the coming weeks are expected to draw renewed scrutiny of Ghana’s cyber laws and their enforcement in cases involving high-profile figures.
