Ghanaian centre-back Kojo Peprah Oppong is drawing serious attention from top-tier European clubs, with French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice officially submitting a bid for the 21-year-old following his impressive rise in Sweden’s football ranks.
The talented defender, who currently plays for IFK Norrköping in the Swedish Allsvenskan, has emerged as a hot prospect after a breakthrough run of form that began during a two-year loan spell at GIF Sundsvall in the Superettan.
After a relatively quiet debut season in 2023—making only one senior appearance for Norrköping—Oppong was loaned to Sundsvall, where he flourished. In 42 appearances, he showcased maturity, composure, and defensive leadership well beyond his years. That performance earned him a recall to Norrköping for the 2025 season, where he has already featured in 14 matches, cementing his role in the team’s backline.
Speaking to Swedish outlet NT-sporten, Oppong confirmed that talks are in progress:
“All I know is that they have made an offer and that the clubs are discussing. I think it would be a really good step for me.”
Norrköping’s sporting director, Magni Fannberg, echoed the sentiment, revealing that interest in Oppong has been escalating.
“We even saw it after the loan in Sundsvall. It has only gotten bigger during the spring and summer,” he noted.
The potential move to OGC Nice, known for nurturing young talent and competing in one of Europe’s elite leagues, represents a significant career milestone for Oppong, who began his journey at Ghana’s Attram De Visser Soccer Academy.
If finalized, the transfer would mark another success story for Ghana’s emerging talents in European football, as Oppong could soon become the latest in a new generation of defenders carrying the nation’s hopes abroad.
