Accra Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey is hoping his consistent performances in the Ghana Premier League will earn him an opportunity to represent the Black Stars in the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Somalia.
The 25-year-old centre-back has emerged as an important figure in the Phobians’ defence during the 2026/27 league season, delivering performances that have strengthened his case for a maiden call-up to the senior national team.
Asibey’s recent form has been particularly impressive, earning him three consecutive NASCO Man of the Match awards in fixtures against Vision FC, Port City FC and Basake Holy Stars.
His performances have helped Hearts of Oak maintain a solid defensive structure as the club pursues its objectives in the domestic league.
Speaking after Hearts of Oak’s victory over Basake Holy Stars on Friday, October 23, the defender expressed his willingness to answer the national team’s call whenever the opportunity arises.
“As long as I am a citizen of the Republic of Ghana, I am ready, whenever the nation needs my services, I’ll come and serve the nation very well,” Asibey said.
His declaration comes as the Black Stars prepare for a crucial two-legged encounter against Somalia in the qualifiers for the 2027 AFCON.
Ghana are scheduled to face Somalia on November 12 and 16, with the matches presenting an opportunity for players in strong domestic form to stake a claim for national team selection.
Asibey will be hoping his performances for Hearts of Oak attract the attention of the Black Stars technical team as he seeks to make the step up to international football.
