The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across the country for various breaches of broadcasting regulations.
The action follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama, allowing defaulting stations to rectify violations of laws governing FM radio broadcasting in Ghana.
According to the NCA, six stations failed, refused, or neglected to take advantage of the regulatory amnesty, leading to their suspension. These are:
-
Donplus Multimedia Limited (105.9 MHz – Ho)
-
Dreams Ghana Media Limited (104.9 MHz – New Abirem)
-
Jam Multimedia Limited (101.3 MHz – Kintampo)
-
Jewel Group Limited (102.7 MHz – Duayaw Nkwanta)
-
Kpandai Star Community Radio (107.3 MHz – Kpandai)
-
Unique Gateway Communication Limited (105.7 MHz – Nkawkaw)
The Authority also sanctioned three other stations for operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance, in violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991). The offences included the use of unauthorised Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations.
The affected stations are all operated by Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited:
-
95.9 MHz – Accra
-
101.3 MHz – Kumasi
-
101.3 MHz – Takoradi
The NCA stated it will continue to monitor the broadcasting space to ensure strict adherence to licensing requirements and other legal provisions.
