Organisers of the seventh Volta Trade and Investment Fair (VTIF) say the event remains on course to deliver Ghana’s first-ever round-the-clock trade exhibition, despite delays caused by ongoing refurbishment works at the Ho Sports Stadium, the chosen venue for the 2025 edition.
The fair, initially expected to open on Wednesday, November 26, will now fully commence on Thursday, November 27, after contractors continued working late into Wednesday night to complete final upgrade tasks.
The Volta Regional Coordinating Council and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), co-organisers of the fair, maintain that the temporary setbacks will not diminish the experience for exhibitors and visitors, especially as the event will operate a 24-hour business cycle on designated days to compensate for lost time.
“This is Ghana’s first continuous 24-hour trade exhibition,” VTIF CEO Mr. Fred Avornyo emphasised. “More time means more engagement, more business, and more visibility for exhibitors.”
A visit to the stadium showed significant progress—enhanced drainage, new washroom facilities, fresh painting, clearing of overgrowth, and ongoing leveling works. Contractors were seen rushing to complete tent installations and prepare the grounds for exhibitors.
The upgrades are intended not only for the fair but also for the National Farmers’ Day celebration scheduled for December 5 at the same venue.
Exhibitors React to the Delay
Exhibitors expressed mixed reactions after the late setup slowed the allocation of stands.
Dr. Abraham Gaitu, CEO of Salaria Eyemed, remained optimistic, noting he had already secured a fitting space and was confident the fair would be beneficial.
Madam Veronica Agudogo, who deals in fashion accessories, noted that while the delay was inconvenient, she preferred the stadium over Jubilee Park, which she described as “a little remote.” She added, “We just want the setup completed quickly. We’re ready to work.”
Some exhibitors, however, were concerned that a lost day could affect sales and suggested an extension of the fair’s schedule.
Organisers and Officials Confident of Success
Volta Regional Minister Mr. James Gunu, who toured the facility with his team, dismissed fears of a negative impact.
“No one will regret joining the VTIF,” he assured. “This fair offers unmatched opportunities—24-hour networking, business forums, entertainment, and a vibrant cultural showcase.”
Under the theme “Volta Rising: Building Global Partnerships for a Thriving 24-Hour Economy,” this year’s fair aims to position the region as a hub for investment, innovation and global collaboration. Exhibitors from Ghana and beyond are expected to participate, promoting products and services across multiple sectors.
Despite the slow start, organisers insist that once the gates open, the fair will deliver a transformative experience—one that mirrors the region’s ambition to embrace a modern, continuous economic model and attract international partnerships.
