Residents of Accra should expect a stronger-than-usual security presence on Thursday, December 11, as the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and allied security institutions stage a large-scale readiness drill across the city.
The exercise, which begins at 9:00 a.m. from Black Star Square, is anticipated to cause temporary traffic delays along the mapped routes. However, authorities say the operation is purely a training simulation aimed at boosting public confidence and ensuring a safe environment ahead of the busy Christmas season.
In a statement signed by Colonel Evelyn Ntiamoah Asamoah of the GAF Public Relations Department, the military emphasized that the event is “routine” and not a response to any immediate threat. The Show of Force, she noted, allows security agencies to test coordination, display preparedness, and strengthen joint response capabilities.
The Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, and the Ghana Immigration Service will all participate—marking one of the most extensive inter-agency drills this year.
Officials say the public has no cause for alarm.
“This exercise is intended to reassure the populace of our collective readiness to maintain peace and security,” the statement stressed, adding that all necessary measures have been taken to minimize inconvenience and safeguard residents during the operation.
Despite the expected movement of armed security personnel and equipment, GAF is urging the public to carry on with their normal routines, promising a safe and orderly process throughout the drill.
