Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has underscored the government’s commitment to boosting Ghana’s industrial sector, promoting import substitution, and ensuring affordable, quality products for consumers, following an extensive tour of major manufacturing plants at the Tema Free Zones Enclave on Monday, January 26, 2026.

The tour included visits to CBI Ghana Limited (Supacem Cement), Ciments de L’Afrique Ghana Limited (CIMAF), and Rider Steel, where the Minister and her team assessed operational capacities, production challenges, and cost drivers, while exploring opportunities for closer collaboration between government and industry.

At CBI Ghana Limited, producers of Supacem Cement highlighted innovations such as the adoption of calcined clay (LC3) technology, which has reduced reliance on imported clinker, cut production costs, and saved foreign exchange. Minister Ofosu-Adjare commended the firm for its focus on research, environmental sustainability, and local value addition, noting that such measures align with government’s import substitution strategy.

“Reducing imports strengthens our economy, creates jobs, saves foreign exchange and ultimately benefits consumers through better pricing,” she said, adding that energy interventions would continue to support industries in lowering production costs.

During her visit to CIMAF Ghana, the Minister was briefed on the company’s 2.2 million metric tonne cement grinding capacity and its preparedness to meet rising national infrastructure demands. Discussions focused on pricing, quality assurance, safety, gender inclusion, and macroeconomic factors affecting production. Ofosu-Adjare stressed that recent cedi stability should benefit both manufacturers and consumers, advocating a “win-win” approach for industry profitability and affordable goods.

At Rider Steel, the Minister highlighted government’s policy measures to secure raw material availability, including the ban on exporting ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals to support local manufacturing. She praised Rider Steel’s use of domestic inputs, staff welfare initiatives, and contributions to job creation.

Across all three facilities, the Minister reiterated that a thriving private sector is central to Ghana’s industrialization agenda. She pledged continued policy support, inter-agency coordination, and promotion of innovation to build a competitive, resilient manufacturing sector capable of delivering quality products at sustainable prices.
