Serious allegations of harassment and abuse have surfaced against the Royal Nursing Training College, following claims by a former student who says she and others endured mistreatment during their time at the institution.
Speaking on Ghana Yensom, a morning programme on Accra 100.5 FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson, the former student alleged that the school lacked a proper administrative structure and formal grievance procedures for students to report concerns.
According to her account, the institution was largely run by its proprietor, identified only as King Owusu, and his wife, who allegedly handled most operational matters personally. She claimed female students were subjected to intimidation, verbal abuse and, in some instances, physical punishment.
The former student further alleged that some students felt pressured to comply with inappropriate demands to avoid humiliation or disciplinary action. She also claimed the proprietor occasionally entered female hostels without permission and that doors were sometimes forced open.
One of the most disturbing claims involves the alleged installation of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera in a female bathroom, which she said was used to monitor students without their consent. Additionally, she alleged that students were temporarily asked to vacate the campus whenever official inspectors were expected.
The former student, who described herself as a victim, said she decided to speak publicly to draw the attention of authorities and the general public to the alleged incidents.
Management of the college has not yet responded to the allegations. Meanwhile, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has reportedly shut down the institution over lack of accreditation.
