President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC).
GIADEC, established under the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation Act, 2018 (Act 976), is responsible for spearheading the development of a globally competitive Integrated Aluminium Industry (IAI) in Ghana. The corporation manages the government’s current and future investments in the aluminium sector, including its stakes in the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) and the Ghana Bauxite Company Limited (GBC).
A core aspect of GIADEC’s mandate is to form strategic partnerships with investors while ensuring significant local participation across the entire bauxite and aluminium value chain. A key policy requires that at least 30% of any new mining, refining, or smelting venture be jointly owned by GIADEC and a Ghanaian private partner.
The IAI initiative encompasses four major projects, focusing on expanding two existing operations and establishing two new ventures through joint partnerships.
Ankrah, an accomplished lawyer with extensive expertise, assumes leadership at a crucial time for GIADEC. His legal career spans multiple fields, including the extractive industry, corporate and commercial law, real estate, medical negligence, dispute resolution, family law, and criminal defence.
He holds an LLM in Energy Law, an LLB, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with Sociology, all from the University of Ghana. Currently a partner at Morrison, Twumasi & Partners, he leads the firm’s dispute resolution and litigation division.
Ankrah has provided advisory services in investment analysis, energy and mining policies, compliance, and legal risk management. He has also been instrumental in project financing, debt restructuring, and securing regulatory approvals.
With his extensive experience and strategic leadership, Ankrah is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing Ghana’s Integrated Aluminium Industry agenda and navigating the complexities of the sector.
