Authorities and alumni of Wesley Grammar School have called for increased support to improve infrastructure in the school as part of activities marking its 70th anniversary.
The National President of the Wesley Grammar School Old Students Association, Alexander Konadu, appealed to the Government and members of the association to help construct internal roads within the school to improve the learning environment.
According to him, the current untarred roads create discomfort for students and staff, particularly due to dust, and require urgent attention to enhance teaching and learning.
Mr Konadu made the appeal in Accra during events organised over the weekend to commemorate the school’s 70th anniversary.
He noted that various alumni year groups had undertaken several development projects in the school, including the renovation of the main gate and the establishment of a robotics centre as well as a Science and Mathematics centre.
Mr Konadu also revealed that old students had broken ground for the construction of a new girls’ dormitory and appealed for additional support to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the association has planned several activities, including a homecoming, a public lecture, a bonfire, a thanksgiving service and a grand anniversary ceremony expected to attract key government officials.
Meanwhile, the Lead Project Consultant for the anniversary, Patrick Richard Okine, expressed concern about rising indiscipline in schools and called for stricter punishment for offenders to deter others.
He emphasised that the school remained committed to ethical values and urged students to adhere to rules and regulations.
The Headmistress, Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson, commended alumni groups for their contributions to the development of the school but encouraged more old students to support ongoing projects to improve educational outcomes.
The Chairman of the anniversary planning committee, Michael Moi Buckman, also invited the public to participate in the upcoming public lecture, which will focus on issues related to education.
