In a significant operation by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), 93 Nigerian nationals were apprehended in Accra for their involvement in internet fraud and immigration offences.
The raid, which took place at six properties within the Devtraco Estate, resulted in the rescue of 73 victims who had been subjected to severe abuse by the suspects.
The operation, spearheaded by Deputy Superintendent Newman Akuffo from the GIS National Operations Unit, uncovered a range of illicit items, including counterfeit US dollars, fake gold bars, 82 laptops, and 57 mobile phones.
Authorities also recovered household appliances, including 17 television sets, which were reportedly used to facilitate the fraudulent activities.
During the course of investigations, it was revealed that some of the suspects had entered Ghana through unapproved routes, while others had overstayed their visa-free entry.
The GIS continues to probe the matter, with the 73 victims being returned to Nigeria.
The Ghana Immigration Service emphasized the importance of foreign nationals adhering to the laws of the country and reinforced the legal implications of human trafficking under the Human Trafficking Act, 2005 (Act 694).
