Authorities in Accra have apprehended a 22-year-old man after a viral social media video caused widespread concern among Christian communities.
The video, intercepted by the Police Intelligence Directorate on April 5, 2026, showed a masked individual posing as a bandit with the caption “We are starting from Ghana churches,” raising alarm over potential attacks on places of worship.
Police identified the suspect as Evans Puplampu of Ashaiman Community 22, who was arrested on April 7 following sustained surveillance and intelligence operations.
During questioning, Puplampu admitted posting the video under the TikTok username “Eyes Man,” claiming he had mimicked a trending pose for entertainment purposes without intending to incite fear. Authorities confiscated the Samsung Galaxy A15 device used to record and upload the clip.
Police cautioned the public against creating content that could provoke panic or threaten public safety and confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
This incident highlights the increasing scrutiny of online content and the potential consequences of viral posts that may be misinterpreted as threats to community safety.
