Ghana is set for a major upgrade in telecommunications services as government-backed investments drive an unprecedented expansion of network infrastructure across the country.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, announced that telecom operators are significantly increasing the number of cell sites to tackle persistent connectivity challenges and improve service delivery.
The expansion, spearheaded by industry leaders such as MTN and Telecel, is expected to deliver noticeable improvements in both voice and data services in the coming months.
According to the Minister, the scale of investment marks a sharp departure from previous years, with hundreds of new sites being deployed within a single year—far exceeding historical averages.
He noted that regulatory measures, including sanctions where necessary, would be strategically applied to ensure telecom companies reinvest in network improvements for the benefit of consumers.
The infrastructure push forms part of Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda, with government emphasizing that reliable connectivity is essential for innovation, education, and economic growth.
