AI Boom Drives Record Profits for TSMC as Demand for Advanced Chips Surges

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is on track to post another record-breaking quarter, driven by explosive global demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure and advanced chip technologies.

Analysts expect the semiconductor giant to report a significant rise in earnings for the January–March period, with net profit projected to jump by about 50 percent year-on-year, marking what could be its fourth consecutive quarter of record performance.

The strong outlook is being fuelled by growing demand for TSMC’s cutting-edge 3-nanometre chip production and advanced packaging technologies, which remain heavily oversubscribed as global tech firms race to expand AI capabilities.

As a key supplier to major technology firms including Nvidia and Apple, TSMC has benefited significantly from the global AI surge, pushing its market valuation to around $1.6 trillion—nearly double that of rival Samsung Electronics.

Market estimates suggest quarterly net profit could reach approximately T$542.6 billion, which would represent the company’s highest-ever quarterly earnings if confirmed. Any result above T$505.7 billion would extend its streak of record profitability.

Despite global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that could affect the supply of critical manufacturing materials such as helium and neon, analysts say TSMC remains well-positioned due to its diversified supply chain and strategic stockpiling.

The company is also expected to provide updated guidance on its second-quarter performance and full-year outlook during its upcoming earnings call, with investors closely watching its capital expenditure plans.

TSMC is currently investing heavily in global expansion, including a $165 billion semiconductor manufacturing project in the United States and expanded production plans in Japan, aimed at strengthening its leadership in advanced chip manufacturing.

With shares already up significantly this year, the company continues to reinforce its dominance at the centre of the global AI and semiconductor supply chain.
