Despite their dominance in 2024 with multiple hit songs, Hiplife duo DopeNation did not secure any nominations for the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs)—but according to Charterhouse Productions, the reason is simple: they didn’t submit their work for consideration.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Robert Klah, Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, clarified that the group neither filed for nominations nor gave consent when organisers reached out.
“One would expect that on a platform like this, in the year under review, their place will certainly be established. Unfortunately, when there was no filing, and we tried to reach out for consent, we couldn’t get it,” Klah explained.
Reacting to speculations about their absence from the awards, DopeNation suggested on X (formerly Twitter) that there might be deeper issues at play. Responding to radio host DJ Slim, the duo hinted at feeling sidelined within the industry.
“We have been battling a lot that can’t be said out of respect for some people in this hypocritical music space. However, can we all recall from 2021? Maybe some of us will know this is not just about awards, Sir. Gradually this industry will be losing its ‘TRUE ARTISTS’.”
DopeNation had a stellar run in 2024, releasing three major hits:
- Zormizor (Asabone) – June 2024 (a viral sensation on social media and mainstream platforms)
- Gbohe – August 2024
- Shey – October 2024
With such momentum, the duo was widely expected to secure a nomination for Group of the Year—a category they previously won in 2020 but controversially lost to Keche in 2021. Their absence also meant missing out on a potential nod for Most Popular Song of the Year.
While it remains unclear why DopeNation opted out of the awards process, their cryptic comments suggest underlying tensions with the industry. However, Charterhouse maintains that nomination rules require formal submissions, and the duo’s absence was purely procedural.
Whether DopeNation was deliberately avoiding the TGMAs or simply overlooked the submission process, their impact on Ghanaian music in 2024 remains undeniable.
