Corporate organisations have begun contributing to the government’s fundraising campaign to support the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
At a brief ceremony in Accra, KGL Group donated GH¢5 million, representing half of its GH¢10 million pledge, while Serene Insurance contributed GH¢2 million in cash and provided an additional GH¢20 million insurance package.
Icon Energy and Jewel Energy each donated GH¢1 million, Erata Motors gave GH¢200,000, and PayAngel contributed GH¢100,000.
Mr Alex Okyere of KAF Company Limited also made a personal donation of GH¢240,000 toward the campaign.
Deputy Minister for Finance, Mr Thomas Nyarko Ampem, said all donations were being paid into the official 2026 World Cup Fundraising Account at the Bank of Ghana to ensure transparency and accountability.
According to him, all funds raised would be used strictly for the Black Stars’ preparations toward the tournament.
Mr Ampem announced that Thursdays had been designated as official days for receiving pledges and updating the public on the fundraising exercise.
“Every Thursday, we will meet here to receive contributions, giving those who are yet to fulfil their pledges the opportunity to do so,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to donors for their support and encouraged more companies and individuals to contribute to the initiative.
The fundraising drive, launched by President John Dramani Mahama in March 2026, aims to raise $30 million for Ghana’s World Cup preparations.
Mr Ampem said despite the team’s poor showing in its first two friendly matches, there was confidence that the Black Stars would perform well at the tournament.
