New Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed strong belief in the country’s football potential, describing Ghana as a nation capable of producing world-class champions if its talent is properly managed.
Queiroz was officially unveiled on Thursday, April 23, and has been handed a short-term contract running until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His immediate task is to steady the Black Stars, who have suffered a run of four consecutive defeats under former coach Otto Addo.
With less than 50 days to the start of the tournament, the experienced Portuguese tactician will lead Ghana into Group L, where they are scheduled to face England, Croatia and Panama.
Speaking at his unveiling, Queiroz said his focus is fully on delivering results at the World Cup.
“In this moment, I have to put 99.9% of my attention on the results and the success of the World Cup,” he said.
He added that he was hopeful his tenure would bring positive outcomes for Ghanaian football.
“I wish God blesses me with the right and best results for Ghana, and if it happens as I expect, I will be very happy to give my contribution,” he stated.
Queiroz also praised the country’s depth of talent, suggesting that Ghana’s football identity could evolve beyond producing players to producing champions.
“This is a country of footballers,” he said. “I believe that the day Ghana will be able to manage the present and the future in this way, this country will not be only a country of footballers but a country of champions.”
Ghana will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage at the World Cup for the first time since their historic quarter-final appearance in 2010.
