The contractor handling the long-delayed Bogoso-Prestea road project in Ghana’s Western Region is on the verge of losing the contract after government expressed frustration over the slow pace of work.
Minister for Roads and Highways Governs Kwame Agbodza has instructed the Ghana Highway Authority to begin termination proceedings against Black Oak over what he described as poor performance.
During an inspection tour of ongoing Big Push and other critical road projects in the region, Mr. Agbodza revealed that the contractor had completed less than two percent of the project despite being awarded the contract in 2025.
He stressed that although the road is not part of the government’s flagship Big Push initiative, it remains a vital route that cannot be ignored because of its importance to economic activities in the area.
“This is a very important road, so we need somebody who sees the urgency to address the concerns of the stakeholders here,” the minister said.
He added that the project should be reassigned to a more competent contractor capable of delivering results.
Local authorities said Black Oak moved to site in March this year and only cleared trees and structures along the right-of-way, with no significant construction work carried out since then.
The move signals government’s determination to crack down on delayed infrastructure projects and ensure critical roads are completed on schedule.
