Decade-Old Ajumako Bisease Education Projects Roar Back to Life

Construction has resumed on the long-abandoned Nursing Training College and College of Education projects at Ajumako Bisease in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District, ending years of stagnation that left the facilities deteriorating and incomplete.

Originally launched in 2014 but stalled after 2016, the two major infrastructure projects are now back on site, with workers actively engaged in construction when the Ghana News Agency visited the area on May 21, 2026.

The projects, funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and overseen by the Central Regional Coordinating Council, are expected to be completed within 24 months and have now been expanded in scope.

The College of Education project, split into three lots and supervised by Kay+Partners Limited, includes lecture theatres, laboratories, an auditorium, library, administrative block, residential accommodation for staff, and student facilities such as hostels and a dining complex. Contractors working on the project include Construction Ambassadors Limited, Tally Limited, and Choten Company Limited.

At the time of inspection, most structures were still at foundation or early construction stages, though signs of renewed mobilisation were evident across the site.

Work on the Nursing Training College has also resumed steadily, although full details of the revised scope remain undisclosed. Some earlier structures, including classroom blocks and dormitories, had suffered deterioration due to years of neglect.

The revival of the projects has sparked widespread excitement in Bisease, with residents describing it as a long-awaited relief that will transform education and economic activity in the area.

Local leaders say the resumption is already driving small-scale economic growth, with traders recording increased activity around the construction sites and residents investing in housing in anticipation of future student demand.

Community members expressed optimism that the projects will improve access to tertiary education, reduce travel burdens for students, create jobs, and stimulate long-term development in the district.

While welcoming the renewed construction, residents are urging timely completion to ensure the facilities finally serve their intended purpose after years of delay.
