Ghana captain Jordan Ayew says the Black Stars are building strong momentum under new head coach Carlos Queiroz and are confident of making a major impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Wales on Tuesday, the Leicester City forward said the team is developing well under the new technical leadership and is focused on delivering a strong performance on the global stage.
Ayew believes the current squad has both the quality and mentality to compete with the world’s best, stressing that unity and discipline will be key to Ghana’s success in North America.
“We just want to go there and put on a show and represent Africa and Ghana the best that we can,” he said, adding that he is confident the team can “surprise people” at the tournament.
Ghana, who will be making their fifth World Cup appearance, are targeting a return to the knockout stages for the first time since their historic quarter-final run in 2010. The Black Stars have suffered early exits in both 2014 and 2022 editions and are now hoping to rewrite their recent World Cup record.
The team has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
