The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal drug operations, seizing more than 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis during a major intelligence-led operation in the Volta Region.
The raid, carried out at Gbi-Wegbe near Hohoe, led to the confiscation of 2,372.38 kilograms of the suspected substance, with an estimated street value of GH¢1.18 million.
According to NACOC, the operation targeted a farmhouse and warehouse believed to have been used as a storage and distribution centre for illicit drugs. Officers stormed the facility in the early hours of May 31 following intelligence gathered on the activities of suspected traffickers in the area.
The Commission described the seizure as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and curb the spread of illegal narcotics across the country.
While no arrests have been announced, NACOC said investigations are underway to identify and apprehend individuals linked to the operation.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and protecting communities from the dangers associated with narcotics production, trafficking and abuse.
