President John Dramani Mahama has showcased the resurgence of Ghana’s capital market to international investors, citing strong stock market returns and renewed activity in initial public offerings (IPOs) as signs of growing confidence in the economy.
Speaking during the Market Open ceremony at the London Stock Exchange (LSE) on Wednesday, the President said the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) had undergone a remarkable transformation over the past year, emerging as one of the world’s best-performing equity markets.
Addressing global investors at the event, Mahama noted that the GSE Composite Index recorded a return of 63.4 per cent in 2026, placing Ghana among the top-performing stock exchanges globally. He said the market also delivered impressive returns for international investors, strengthening Ghana’s appeal as an investment destination.
The President pointed to renewed activity in the country’s primary market as a key indicator of investor confidence. After nearly seven years without a major public listing, three companies have either completed or announced IPOs within the past six months.
According to him, First Atlantic Bank PLC raised GH¢742 million through an oversubscribed public offer in December 2025, while Zen Petroleum Holdings PLC secured GH¢640 million through another oversubscribed listing earlier this year. Kasapreko PLC is also expected to enter the market this month with plans to raise GH¢700 million to support business expansion.
Mahama described the successful listings across the banking, energy, and consumer goods sectors as evidence of renewed trust in Ghana’s economy and financial markets.
He further highlighted improvements in the country’s macroeconomic environment, including lower inflation, a more stable cedi, and stronger foreign reserves, which he said have helped restore investor confidence.
The President assured prospective investors that Ghana’s stock market is fully accessible remotely through internationally integrated trading and settlement systems, allowing foreign participation without the need for a physical presence in the country.
He also announced government plans to advance the listing of selected state-owned enterprises on the Ghana Stock Exchange as part of efforts to deepen the capital market and broaden investment opportunities.
The LSE engagement formed part of President Mahama’s five-day investment and diplomatic visit to the United Kingdom aimed at attracting foreign direct investment and strengthening Ghana’s international financial partnerships.
